Port Adelaide attacking duo Mitch Georgiades and Jack Whitlock have kicked three goals each in a comeback 21-point victory over North Melbourne.

The Power kicked the last four goals of the game for a plucky 10.13 (73) to 7.10 (52) win at Adelaide Oval on Sunday night.

North blew an opportunity to take eighth spot on the ladder and remain 11th with eight wins and eight losses.

After leading by a goal late in the third quarter, the Kangaroos added just one point in the last term for another miserable trip to Adelaide Oval, where they have lost 15 from 15 games.

The Power, with three wins from their past five matches and six from 10 overall, are 15th.

But first-year coach Josh Carr's defensive code again proved too hard for their opposition to crack. Despite Port's lowly ladder status, they're second-best for scores against.

Port's Jason Horne-Francis (24 disposals, nine clearances) was a standout against his former club and acting captain Zak Butters (26 touches) was again busy.

Georgiades controlled the Power's attack alongside his emerging sidekick Jack Whitlock, while veteran Darcy Byrne-Jones (24) was influential at halfback.

North's Harry Sheezel, a week after collecting 43 disposals, gathered 40 and a goal.

Sheezel's midfield mates Luke Davies-Uniacke (21, one goal) and Colby McKercher (28, one goal) were also dynamic.

Veterans Luke Parker (27 touches) and Jack Darling (two goals) proved their worth but the Roos were overwhelmed late by a fast-finishing Port.

Both clubs scored just one goal in a dour opening term highlighted by the ball-winning of North duo Davies-Uniacke (14 disposals) and Sheezel (12).

Rising tall forward Whitlock kicked the opening two goals of the second term before the tide continued Port's way with a deliberate rushed behind call.

North's Cooper Harvey stopped near the goal line and assessed his options before taking backward steps when Port's Georgiades approached.

The umpire deemed it deliberate and the Power spearhead converted for an 18-point break. His side held that margin until halftime, 5.5 to 2.5.

Port skipped 25 points clear when Georgiades snared his third just two minutes into the third term.

But just when the Kangaroos appeared down and out, they responded with an unheralded scoring spree of five consecutive goals.

Livewires Sheezel and McKercher were among the scorers in the burst as the visitors hit the front, only for Port's Horne-Francis to goal with a 55 metre bomb on the run to level scores at three-quarter time, 7.9 apiece.

A desperate but goalless dozen minutes opened the final quarter before Port's Corey Durdin bounced through an accurate snap to create a seven-point buffer.

Georgiades then capped his eye-catching display with a 45m set shot before Jackson Mead converted to seal victory before 33,105 spectators.

After all that drama over the weekend, here's how things are left at the end of round of 17.

The Dockers still lead by a game over Sydney after their loss to GWS.

Hawthorn and Brisbane round out the top four, with the Crows and Melbourne completing the automatic finals spots.

Form there, there are two games difference between Geelong in seventh and the Suns in 14th! With seven rounds to go there is still a lot to sort out.

Mitch Georgiades and Zak Butters have spoken to Fox Footy after Port Adelaide's win over North Melbourne.

"It was a great win, it was a little bit ugly but a great win," Georgiades said.

Both players were cleaned up a few times in the physical contest against the Kangaroos.

"I feel like I was knocked around a bit, I will definitely be sore tomorrow, but that's the game," Georgiades said.

"It's always easy to jump up when you know it's going to be your free kick," Butters added.

Port Adelaide have six wins for the season, and they are now two games plus percentage out of the eight after the Showdown win and today's victory.

"We've got to keep it going,"Georgiades added.

The seconds tick down at Adelaide Oval, and it's the home fans who are celebrating as the siren sounds!

Jackson Mead kicked the final goal of the game but it was already sealed.

Hang on! The club song was sounding at the ground, but the umpires said there was one more kick, which was thumped towards goal, it nearly bounced through for a point, but was ruled no score.

Port Adelaide have missed out on some close games this season, but they finish over the top of the Kangaroos to win by 21 points.

A great final quarter from Jason Horne-Francis, Zak Butters and others saw the home side home.

For North Melbourne, it's more pain at Adelaide Oval.

They've never won at the famous venue — and they still haven't!

Fifteen losses from 15 games. That hurts, but not as much as the fact the Kangaroos have blown their chance to be back in the top 10.

A sidenote - there were 70 free kicks awarded in this game, so if anyone can donate a new pea for the umpire's whistles, they'll be gladly received.

We're into time on in the final quarter, and the Power are looking strong.

The ball goes inside 50 from Mitch Zadow, and Jack Whitlock gets a free kick for a chop of the arm by the North defender.

Whitlock steers it home, and the Power fans are up and about.

Port Adelaide leads by 14 points.

Port can't put this away just now.

We've spoken about the turnovers, and this time it burned North Melbourne.

A poor kick from Colby McKercher was snapped up by Port, they went inside 50, and the ball fell to Corey Durdin, who opted for the nemesis kick for Jason Dunstall, the dribble kick from the pocket.

It rolled home!

The Power leads by seven points. Pure luxury for the home side! Just under 10 minutes on the clock.

Mitch Georgiades has copped a number of big hits in this game, and he's had another one there.

Not sure if he was hit in the head or the guts there, but he's in a bit of bother.

A North Melbourne defender came close to Georgiades, only for the umpire to say on the mic "Keep clear, you're not a doctor!".

We're nowhere near the real urgent final section of the match yet, but the tension is high as is the pressure.

Both sides are making errors.

Port Adelaide just ran down Colby McKercher in midfield, and gang-tackled him in the Adelaide Oval centre square.

This is going to be some finish. We have more than half a quarter to go.

This is tense stuff at Adelaide Oval. Both teams are desperate for the win, and no one can get clear.

It's all happening in singles (or points, if you will).

A snap from Joe Richards slews to the right, and it's another miss.

Port Adelaide by a point.

Port Adelaide hacks the ball forward and a lunging mark is taken on the wing.

The ball comes out to Zak Butters, and he thumps one from distance. It bounces close to goal but doesn't get the Shane Warne / Angus Monfries "leg-break" bounce through for a goal.

It's a point, we're back level. Plenty of time left.

A fierce first minute or two in the final term, leads to the ball heading inside 50 for North.

Cam Zurhaar marks it in the right forward pocket, and after spending an inordinate amount of time getting security to move, his kick swirls through the Adelaide Oval night air, only to hit the post!

North by a point.

North Melbourne clear a Port Adelaide attack in the final minute, and it's McKercher to Sheezel to LDU, as the Kangas burst downfield.

The Port fans are worried, as LDU kicks to the pocket where Charlie Spargo marks just inside 50.

His kick is after the siren, and it gets as far as the square where it is punched clear.

Scores are level with a quarter to go!

Who wins this? You'd lean towards North, because they've rediscovered how to attack in that quarter.

But then Port has Jason Horne-Francis, who showed he could just about win this on his own if he goes on a tear.

Don't go anywhere!

Not sure what happened there, but this quarter is coming to boiling point late.

There was a free to Port Adelaide for something, everyone stopped except Jason Horne-Francis, who charged towards goal and unloaded from outside the arc.

It flew, and flew ... and FLEW! The ball was touched behind the line by the defenders, and the goal stood.

We are level once more deep, deep in time on.

It's been a really tight period of play at Adelaide Oval.

A rushed behind levelled the scores, and then the Port fans were about to riot when Mitch Georgiades's big pack-mark (which looked fair) was not paid.

But late in the quarter, North has gone forward again, and Jack Darling took a mark inside 50.

He steers the kick home, and the Kangaroos lead again!

It's been coming, but the Adelaide Oval crowd is almost silent!

North Melbourne have been just rushing the ball inside 50 by any means available.

George Wardlaw burst onto the ball on the left wing, and the ball went inside 50, and there was an arm chop on a North attacker.

Instead of taking the free, North let Colby McKercher run onto the spill of the ball and he clipped it home from 25m out on the left.

The Kangaroos lead by a point!!!!!!!

They're in the eight! (For now).

Once again, the Kangaroos are taking more chances here, they force the ball inside 50 and Luke Davies-Uniacke rips the ball out of a pack to the outside, and snaps one over his shoulder.

It's a goal! We're approaching time on in the third term and North are within six points!
