Weather & What to Wear
FOUR-DAY OUTLOOK
The fine spell promised over the weekend has arrived. Monday is warm and dry at 25°C under largely clear skies, with just a 10% chance of rain, so it is a lovely start to the week.
Dress for the warmth: light clothes, sunglasses and sunscreen, especially if you are near the beach, where the midday sun has real strength even in winter. A light layer is handy for the cooler evening.
Tomorrow is the pick of the week at a glorious 27°C and all but cloudless, a fine beach day. The warmth then eases from Wednesday, with more cloud and a rising chance of rain building toward the weekend.

What to See & Do
MONDAY IN RIO
TODAY’S PICK — CCBB, FINAL DAY
The last day of Yoshitaka Amano
If you have been meaning to catch it, the clock has run down: the Yoshitaka Amano retrospective, Além da Fantasia, closes at the CCBB this evening. Today is the final chance to see one of the year’s most admired exhibitions before it is gone.
Amano is among the most influential visual artists in Japan, and the show ranges across fine art, illustration, fashion and the worlds of animation and gaming. It traces the line from Japanese calligraphy, Noh theatre and ukiyo-e prints through to his celebrated pop-culture collaborations, and many of the works have never before been shown in Brazil. The dreamlike, intricate style rewards a slow, attentive visit, so give yourself a good hour or more if you can.
Entry is free, with limited tickets through the bank’s culture portal and at the box office, but expect a busy final day, so go early and be prepared to wait a little for a slot. The CCBB itself is a beautifully restored early-twentieth-century banking hall on Rua Primeiro de Março, its glass-domed rotunda worth seeing in its own right, with other exhibitions usually on across its floors plus a café and a bookshop to round out a visit. A last-day visit is the fitting send-off to a show that has drawn crowds throughout its run, and a fine reason to spend a morning in the historic heart of the city before the warm afternoon pulls you back outdoors.
OUTDOORS — THE FINE WEEK BEGINS
Warm, clear and made for the beach
With a warm, dry 25°C and the warmth building toward a glorious Tuesday, the beach is firmly back on the menu. Ipanema and Leblon are the classic choices, quieter on a Monday than at the weekend and all the more pleasant for it.
For something more active, the clear conditions are ideal for the views and the sea. The cable car up Pão de Açúcar is unbeatable on a day like this, the bay sparkling below, and the Lagoa circuit and the Aterro do Flamengo are easy and green for a walk, run or cycle away from the traffic.
Tomorrow is the warmest day of the week at 27°C, so if you can steal an afternoon, it is the one to take for a proper beach day. The fine spell eases from Wednesday with more cloud about and a rising chance of rain, so the start of the week is very much the moment to make the most of the sunshine before it slips away toward the weekend.
COFFEE & WHERE TO WORK — CENTRO & BOTAFOGO
Back to the working week
Monday means desks and deadlines again, and Rio has good spots to settle in. In Centro, handy for the CCBB, Curto Café is the pick for excellent coffee and a focused hour, with its relaxed pay-what-you-think spirit.
Over in Botafogo, Urban Bean keeps a calm room and a steady connection, and Como Coworking nearby is the dependable choice for a full day at a desk. Both are back to weekday rhythm after the quiet of the weekend, busy but workable.
If you are near the port, the WeWork Porto Maravilha and the cafés around Praça Mauá make a pleasant base, with the museums close by for a lunchtime break. With the weather this good, a window seat and a strong coffee is the gentle way back into the working week, and the museums and the seafront are never far for a lunchtime break.
THE CONTRASTING PLAY — MUSEU DO AMANHÃ
The future, down at the port
If you would rather something that is not closing today, the Museu do Amanhã at Praça Mauá is one of Rio’s modern landmarks, Santiago Calatrava’s striking spaceship of a building jutting out over the water. Its exhibitions explore science, sustainability and the possible futures facing humanity, making for an engaging and thought-provoking few hours suitable for all ages, children included.
There is one catch worth noting: it is open Tuesday to Sunday, so it is firmly closed today, making it the ideal pairing with tomorrow’s fine weather rather than this afternoon. Reached easily by the VLT to Praça Mauá, it sits beside the MAR in the revived port district, and the waterfront square around it is a pleasant place to linger over a coffee in the warm air once you are done exploring.
TONIGHT, AFTER 7 PM
An easy start to the week
Monday nights in Rio are quiet, and the warm evening lends itself to something gentle. There is no football tonight, so it is a fine evening for a relaxed drink in the open air rather than a big night out, the city easing itself back into the working week.
The botequins of Botafogo and the beachfront kiosks of Ipanema and Copacabana are perfect for an unhurried chope and a bite as the day cools. With the sea breeze and the lingering warm air, a seafront kiosk with your feet almost in the sand is one of the simplest pleasures the city offers on a weeknight, and easy on the wallet too.
It is also a good night to rest up before the midweek football, with Brazil’s group decider against Scotland coming on Wednesday. Keep it low-key tonight, enjoy the warm evening while the fine spell lasts, and save the energy for what should be a lively, tense match night to come, with the whole city watching the group decider unfold.

Getting Around
TRANSPORT
It is back to the weekday rhythm, so the morning and evening rush hours return, and the roads are busier than over the weekend. The Metrô is the quickest and most predictable way around, particularly for Centro and the CCBB.
For the CCBB, take the Metrô to Uruguaiana or Carioca, with the VLT serving the port if you are heading that way. Note that the port museums are shut today, so save them for tomorrow when the fine weather and their open doors line up nicely.
05
Where to Eat
LUNCH & DINNER
Lunch: A weekday lunch in Centro is quick and good value. The per-kilo restaurants around the CCBB are reliable and varied, ideal before or after the exhibition, or grab something light to eat in a nearby square in the sunshine.
Dinner: Keep the evening simple and warm. The botequins of Botafogo and the seafront kiosks suit a relaxed Monday dinner of petiscos and a cold beer, the right gentle note for the start of the week.

Practical Info
GOOD TO KNOW
A Monday museum note: several of Rio’s big draws close today, including the Museu do Amanhã and the MAR at the port, so plan around it. The CCBB, however, is open, which works out well as it is the Amano show’s final day.
On the markets, trading resumes after the weekend. The Selic sits at 14.25% following last week’s cut, and the dollar eased to around R$5.14 on Friday, so watch how the currency and the Bovespa pick up as the new week begins.
07
Community & Lifestyle
FOR NEWCOMERS
A useful habit for newcomers: many of Rio’s museums close on Mondays, so it pays to check before setting out. A quick look at opening days saves a wasted trip and helps you plan the week around what is actually open.
The flip side is that a warm Monday is a fine day for the things that never close — the beach, the seafront, the cable car and the city’s green spaces. Pairing an open-air morning with a café afternoon is an easy, reliable way to enjoy the start of the week.
08
Game Day
GROUP C WATCH
All eyes turn to Wednesday. Brazil sit top of Group C after Friday’s confident 3-0 win over Haiti, with two from Matheus Cunha and one from Vinícius Júnior, and a victory or a draw against Scotland will see them through.
The maths is finely poised. Brazil are level on four points with Morocco but ahead on goal difference, with Scotland third on three, so the final round decides who tops the group and who else advances from it.
The decider is Scotland vs Brazil, with Morocco playing Haiti at the same time, both kicking off at 7 pm BRT on Wednesday. Simultaneous kickoffs mean the table can swing right to the final whistle, so it should be a tense, absorbing evening.
The team news to watch remains Neymar, who missed the Haiti game with a calf injury. There is cautious hope he could return for Wednesday, a welcome boost as Brazil look ahead to the knockout rounds.

Business & Markets
WEEK IN FIGURES
Trading resumes today after the weekend break. The Ibovespa ended Friday almost exactly flat, up a marginal 0.03% at 168,334 points, capping a subdued week as investors digested the central bank’s rate decision and a cautious global mood.
The dollar eased on Friday to around R$5.14, slipping back from its midweek peak as Middle East tensions and delayed US-Iran talks weighed on the American currency abroad. The Selic, meanwhile, sits at 14.25% after last week’s third straight cut.
The week ahead is light on major domestic data, with the next central bank meeting not until late July. Attention will likely stay on the currency and the global backdrop, so the dollar’s direction is the one to watch as the new week opens.

FAQ
QUICK ANSWERS
Is today really the last day of the CCBB Amano show?
Yes. The Yoshitaka Amano retrospective, Além da Fantasia, closes at the CCBB today, Monday June 22, so this is the final chance to see it. The CCBB is open from 9 am to 8 pm, and entry is free with limited tickets online and at the box office.
Expect it to be busy on a closing day, so arrive early and be ready to queue. The show spans Amano’s fine art, illustration and pop-culture work, much of it shown in Brazil for the first time, and the CCBB’s restored hall in Centro is worth a look in itself.
Which Rio museums are closed on Mondays?
Many of the big ones close on a Monday, so it is worth checking before you set out. The Museu do Amanhã and the MAR, both at Praça Mauá, are closed today and reopen on Tuesday, as are a number of the city’s other galleries.
The CCBB is a useful exception, open today for the final day of the Amano show. For an open-air alternative, the beaches, the Pão de Açúcar cable car and the city’s parks are all available, making a warm Monday a good day for the outdoors rather than indoor culture.
When do Brazil play next in the World Cup?
Brazil’s next match is the Group C decider against Scotland on Wednesday June 24, kicking off at 7 pm BRT, with Morocco playing Haiti at the same time. After Friday’s 3-0 win over Haiti, Brazil top the group on goal difference, level with Morocco on four points.
A draw or a win would secure Brazil’s progress, and a win would seal top spot. Whether Neymar returns from his calf injury remains to be seen, but there is hope he could feature. The match will be on Globo, SporTV and Globoplay from 7 pm.
What is the weather like this week?
The start of the week is lovely. Monday is warm and dry at 25°C, and Tuesday is the pick of the week at a glorious 27°C with almost no rain risk, so the next two days are ideal for the beach and being outside.
From Wednesday the warmth eases, with more cloud and a rising chance of rain, around 35% on the day of the football and higher by Thursday. So enjoy the sunshine early in the week, with an indoor plan worth keeping ready for later on.
