Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has expressed concern that the Central Government is not procuring food grains in accordance with the minimum support price (MSP).

The Centre is not procuring even 30% of the total produce, forcing the State to purchase every grain produced by farmers. Interacting with a delegation of the CPI (Marxist) leaders on Monday (May 25, 2026), the Chief Minister exhorted them to question the Centre about its unkept assurances on food grain purchase.

He explained to the delegation that there was a shortage of hamalis (lifters) in the State due to the elections in West Bengal. Work suffered in the afternoon due to the sweltering heat. The State Government was constantly reviewing the situation with the officials concerned and had taken steps to purchase fine rice with payment of ₹500 as a bonus per quintal while procurement of maize with support prices was underway.

On the other issues, Mr. Reddy told the CPI (M) delegation that families affected by the Musi rejuvenation project would be provided houses in the same vicinity and the Government was committed to make Musi river an attractive tourist destination. This would ensure the beautification of the area and create huge employment potential as well.

The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were, however, politicising the ambitious project, which was aimed at giving a quality life to residents of the city in general and those residing near the river in particular. He said the government was reforming the entire education system with an aim to provide quality education to the people and steps were initiated to provide quality breakfast and lunch for students in different classes. The State Government would open Telangana Public Schools shortly, he said asking the CPI (M) leaders to visit the school at Arutla where development works were taken up.
