Just released, the new RatKing Spite Rack is a minimal front rack that doubles as a handlebar bag support and a dry-bag/basket platform. It uses a unique mounting system and weighs just 269 grams. Take a closer look here…

Smith Levi of RatKing Frames in Washington says the goal with the new Spite Rack “was to build a rack that could hold its own against other racks in this category and, out of spite, be competitive on weight, cargo capacity, and price. I’m trying my hardest not to give anyone a reason not to buy one.”

As such, the Spite Rack is a minimal front rack with a unique yet simple design. It mounts with two 8mm struts and a fixed fork-crown mount. The fork-crown mounting point uses a spherical washer that RatKing says provides enough angular adjustment to accommodate most bikes while keeping the platform level as headtube angles change.

The platform is intentionally simple, with no tombstone, so that you can use it with a handlebar cradle, such as RatKing’s Cradle. Here’s how RatKing explains the entire strut/front area of the rack: “The Spite Rack is built around a custom strut mounting system that uses compression similar to standard Daruma-style hardware. A single-piece aluminum section keeps the two struts clocked relative to each other, reducing rack twist and keeping the whole system feeling solid under load. The two-part clamp combines a set screw with the strut compression hardware, creating a sturdy connection while still allowing easy adjustment and assembly. The rack has a removable, adjustable, ambidextrous light mount. You can switch it from side to side or remove it completely.”

The Spite Rack is impressively light at just 269 grams (with uncut struts + light mount). The platform is 4.5 × 8″ (11.4 x 20.3cm), and the maximum tire width is 2.4″ (2.85″ is the minimum clearance between struts). For now, the Spite Rack is rated for 6 kilograms (13.2 pounds), but Smith is doing additional testing to gather more data.
