Vedanta, a leading metal and mining company, has reported that its net profit in the June quarter was up 72 per cent at ₹5,473 crore against ₹3,185 crore logged in the same period last year. Revenue increased to ₹24,205 crore ( ₹15,754 crore). While consolidated EBITDA was up 98 per cent to ₹8,469 crore.

Arun Misra, Executive Director, Vedanta said the profitability was driven by better performance of zinc and copper output in India while Zinc International continued to build momentum at Gamsberg, with Phase 1 output rising sequentially and Phase 2 on track to commence this quarter.

The company invested ₹1,148 crore in the June quarter. Its net debt reduced by ₹2,223 crore in the quarter under review. At the parent level, Vedanta Resources repaid $1.1 billion loan (at Group level) and tied up fresh funding of $1.75 billion through international bonds at average coupon rate of 7.4 per cent and average maturity of 8.5 years besides raising $2.25 billion through syndicate term loan at 6.4 per cent interest rate with an average maturity of 3 years.

While zinc output in India increased with lowest cost of production, the mined metal production at Zinc International was down 14 per cent year-on-year to 48,000 tonne, as Deep’s mine at Black Mountain in South Africa is nearing end of life. Production at Gamsberg in South Africa was flat at 45,000 tonne.

Copper sales from Silvassa in Gujarat recorded highest sales in last 8 years of 53,000 tonne and was up 3 per cent while copper rod sales at Fujairah was down 51 per cent, impacted with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Ferrochrome production increased 4 per cent to 29,000 tonne. The General Cargo berth at Vizag recorded discharge volume was up 40 per cent at 23.58 lakh tonne, while dispatch volume increased 11 per cent to 16.52 lakh tonne.

Vedanta’s demerger was unlocking significant shareholder value, with combined market cap of resulting companies growing by over ₹71,000 crore in the first quarter, added Ajay Goel, Group CFO, Vedanta.
