The Amritsar Soormas capped off their Sher-E-Punjab T20 League campaign with a convincing eight-wicket victory over the Ludhiana Lions in the final at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Sunday night. After choosing to bowl first, Amritsar’s disciplined attack restricted Ludhiana to 142 before their batters completed the chase with plenty to spare. The triumph marked a memorable night for the Soormas, whose celebrations were later joined by India star Abhishek Sharma over a video call.

Mayank Markande leads Amritsar Soormas’ bowling effort

Amritsar made the most of the decision to bowl first, regularly breaking through Ludhiana’s batting lineup and preventing the Lions from establishing meaningful partnerships. Ludhiana found themselves in serious trouble at 86/7, with captain Salil Arora, Abhijeet Garg and Krish Bhagat among the notable wickets to fall. The pressure built steadily as the Soormas’ bowlers kept the scoring under control.

The standout performer with the ball was spinner Mayank Markande. He delivered a disciplined four-over spell and claimed 3/17, providing crucial breakthroughs during Ludhiana’s difficult middle phase. Harish Kumar and Jassinder Singh attempted to repair the damage and briefly gave Ludhiana hope of posting a stronger total. Their partnership, however, was broken when Shubham Rana dismissed Jassinder for 14 off 12 deliveries.

Ludhiana’s late fightback falls short

Despite losing wickets regularly, Ludhiana managed to add valuable runs towards the end of their innings. Harish combined with Sahil Bhaskar to produce a late recovery, with the pair adding 26 runs for the final wicket. That effort pushed the Lions past the 140-run mark, leaving Amritsar with a target of 143. However, the damage caused during the first 15 overs meant Ludhiana never quite reached a position from which they could put the Soormas under sustained pressure.

Amritsar also suffered an early setback in the chase when Jashanpreet Singh was dismissed. The loss did little to disrupt their momentum, though, as Naman Dhir and Sahaj Dhawan took control of the innings. The pair added 58 runs, with Dhir maintaining an attacking approach throughout his stay at the crease. The Soormas captain eventually departed for a brisk 29 from just 12 balls, but his aggressive contribution had already put Amritsar firmly ahead in the chase.

Sahaj Dhawan, Rahul Kumar seal title triumph

With the target within reach, Dhawan continued to anchor the innings and found a reliable partner in Rahul Kumar. The duo ensured that Amritsar did not suffer any further setbacks and guided the team comfortably towards victory. Dhawan completed an unbeaten half-century, while Rahul finished unbeaten on 42 from 30 balls. Their composed partnership took Amritsar over the line with eight wickets in hand, securing the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League title.

Abhishek Sharma joins title celebrations

The celebrations received an additional boost when Indian batter Abhishek joined the Soormas’ festivities through a video call and congratulated the players on their achievement.

Abhishek himself had enjoyed a remarkable Sunday, starring for India against Afghanistan in the first T20I. Chasing 157, he smashed 82 from only 32 balls, hitting seven fours and seven sixes as India raced to the target in 13.4 overs. His message to the champions added another special moment to Amritsar’s title celebrations.
