Wonder Man showrunner and co-creator Andrew Guest has addressed the show’s shock cancellation directly, posting a video on TikTok over the weekend to give fans his side of the story.

It’s been a bumpy road for the series from the start. After being filmed, it then sat on the shelf for a couple of years before finally landing in early 2026, and for a while it wasn’t even clear the show would see the light of day. Once it did arrive, though, it landed well with both critics and audiences, and star Yahya Abdul-Mateen picked up a Primetime Emmy nomination for his lead performance. A second season was confirmed off the back of that reception back in March which makes this weekend’s cancellation news land as even more of a gut punch for everyone involved.

Reaction from the cast and crew has been swift, and visibly emotional. Abdul-Mateen summed up his feelings in a simple social media post: “that’s life, right?” Guest, meanwhile, used his own platform to try to set the record straight for concerned fans: “I appreciate you all. I feel how you all feel, and I just want to clear up when I can here. This is not a marketing stunt. There is no movie in the works, and Destin Daniel Cretton‘s schedule and no one’s schedule was an issue. Yahya, Destin, Sir Ben and I all loved making this show. All felt passionately about continuing to do it, and were eager to. Contracts were signed, schedules were cleared.” He continued: “the writers’ room was supposed to start this month. The production was supposed to begin early next year, and there was a decision made internally between Disney and Marvel that this didn’t make sense for them, even though a few months ago it did. And that’s essentially all I really know.”
