In the Tamil Nadu Class 12 State Board examination results released by the School Education Secretary B. Chandra Mohan in Chennai on Friday (May 8, 2026), the overall pass percentage in the marginally rose to 95.2% this year.

Erode district recorded the highest pass percentage of 98.8, while Sivaganga district stood second with 98.05% pass, as per the data.

The pass percentage this year has marginally surpassed last year’s 95.03%. The total number of students who took the public exams this year is 7,91,654, which is a marginal decrease from last year where 7,92,494 had appeared for the exam.

Of the 7.91 lakh students who wrote the Class 12 public exams at 3,412 exam centres, 4.1 lakh were girls and 3.7 lakh, boys.

While 97% of girls cleared the exams, a total of 93.19% of boys passed the public examination.

As many as 2,639 schools of the total 7,536 schools in the State recorded a 100% pass. A total of 489 government schools recorded a cent per cent pass rate. Private schools outperformed other schools this year, with a pass percentage of 98.72 while government schools recorded 92.16% and government-aided schools registered 96.14% pass rate.

Of the 8,855 candidates with disabilities who wrote the examination, 6,811 registered a pass. A total of 250 prison inmates took up the exam, out of which 238 passed. As many as 16,024 students have scored a centum in any one subject. Computer Science has registered the most number of centums with 6,945 students scoring a 100. A total of 83 students have scored 100 in Tamil which is a considerable decrease compared to last year’s 135.

Following the removal of Class 11 public exams this year, the arrear exam was held where 20,444 candidates appeared and 8,491 have passed their exams.

Students can check their results at https://results.digilocker.gov.in, https://tnresults.nic.in/ or www.dge.tn.gov.in by entering their roll number and date of birth. This time students can also check their results through WhatsApp by contacting 7845252525.

The Directorate of Government Examinations said that provisional certificates will be available from May 13. Class 11 and 12 Students can also get their answer sheet scan copy from May 12 to May 16. Students can apply for revaluation from June 5 to June 8.

Supplementary exams for Class 12 will be held June 29 to July 7 while for Class 11 (Arrears) will be held from July 08 to July 16. Students can apply for supplementary exams are from May 18 to June 02.

Outgoing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in a post on X congratulated the students on their results. He urged the students to focus on higher education to achieve excellence in life. “Those who couldn’t pass this time must not lose heart, seize the other opportunities that come your way and move forward. Education is the key to success in life,” he said.
