NEW DELHI: New Army chief General Dhiraj Seth Wednesday unveiled 'VIJAY' - his vision for building a future-ready force - saying it stands with PM Modi's vision of 'JAI'', jointness, atmanirbharta and innovation.

Gen Seth said his aim would be to build a technology-enabled, future-ready army, capable of operating effectively across multiple domains, and his guiding motto will be "JAI se VIJAY".After receiving the guard of honour as Army chief on the lawns of South Block, Gen Seth saluted his father Lt Gen K M Seth, who retired as Army's adjutant general in 1997 and subsequently served as governor of Chhattisgarh, MP and Tripura.

The moment became even more emotional when Gen Seth, who has two daughters, exchanged a salute and warm handshake with his younger brother Rear Admiral in Indian Navy Ravnish Seth. One family, three uniforms and a legacy of service to the nation.Talking to reporters, Gen Seth, who assumed charge of Army Tuesday from Gen Upendra Dwivedi, said he will lead the force with "an unwavering commitment to ideals of duty, honour and 'nation first'".

Describing Army as a combat-ready and battle-hardened force, he said the force remains fully prepared and capable of meeting every challenge in the operational domain. He said in view of evolving security environment, Army's modernisation will be taken forward with renewed energy and firm resolve.Explaining "VIJAY", he said "V" stands for vigilance, with continued focus on maintaining constant alertness along the borders and against emerging threats, while ensuring a high level of operational readiness; "I" stands for innovation and transformation, with emphasis on innovation in doctrine, technology and capability development; and "J" stands for jointness and integration, highlighting the need for complete synergy and coordination with IAF and Navy.

"A" stands for atmanirbharta, which, he said, means Army would continue to strengthen indigenous capabilities. Explaining "Y" as 'Yodha First'.
