03What to See & DoCULTURE
TODAY’S PICK — MAR + PRAÇA MAUÁ WATERFRONT — CENTRO
The full Praça Mauá arc reopens — MAR, Museu do Amanhã and the port promenade at 28°C
MAR and Museu do Amanhã both reopen today after Monday’s closure, restoring the full Praça Mauá waterfront circuit for the first time this week. The walk from the VLT Praça Mauá stop along the restored port promenade — past the Museu do Amanhã (Praça Mauá 1), the MAR entry (Praça Mauá 5) and across to the CCBB on R. Primeiro de Março 66 — is one of the great free urban walks in Brazil; at 28°C with a sea breeze off the Baía de Guanabara and the hill of Providência behind the port warehouses, it is at its most inviting of the entire year.
MAR shows No Martins’ Sortilégios de desvio through September 20 — the São Paulo painter’s first institutional solo in Rio, across five rooms of shifting abstraction (10 am–5 pm, R$20, Tue–Sun). Museu do Amanhã at Praça Mauá 1 runs 9 am–6 pm, R$30 (Tue–Sun). Note that CCBB is closed every Tuesday without exception — it reopens on Wednesday at 9 am and is the only major Centro museum that does not open today.
MAM Rio at Av. Infante Dom Henrique 85, Flamengo, is also open today (11 am–7 pm, R$14) with the Oiticica Parangolés and Valentim retrospective. MAR · R$20 · 10 am–5 pm · Praça Mauá 5 · Museu do Amanhã · R$30 · 9 am–6 pm · Praça Mauá 1.
OUTDOORS — IPANEMA / LAGOA / PÃO DE AÇÚCAR
28°C — the hottest June day of the year, and a Tuesday means the beach is yours
At 28°C and 10% rain, today is unambiguously a beach day — and a Tuesday beach day in Rio at this temperature is one of the finest available: the weekend crowds are gone, the water is warm from the recent heat, and Ipanema and Leblon are as accessible as they get. Posto 9 at Ipanema and the Jardim de Alah canal at the Leblon border are the two standard expat reference points; arrive by 10 am before the lunchtime crowd builds.
The Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas circuit at 28°C is also excellent — the water glitters, the Corcovado is visible above the hills and the kiosks along the circuit are in full warm-weather operation. The Pão de Açúcar cable car at Av. Pasteur 520 (8 am–9 pm, R$185/R$92 meia) in this heat and visibility is exceptional: the summit view across the bay at 28°C is as good as it gets in June.
Parque Lage at R. Jardim Botânico 414 is free, daily — the Escola de Artes Visuais café in the villa courtyard is one of the best outdoor lunch stops in the city at 28°C. The Jardim Botânico at R. Jardim Botânico 1008 is R$30, open 8 am–5 pm.
COFFEE & WHERE TO WORK — BOTAFOGO / IPANEMA / JARDIM BOTÂNICO
Outdoor café season in Rio — the best warm-weather work and coffee spots for a 28°C Tuesday
At 28°C, the outdoor terrace at any of Rio’s specialty cafés becomes the first choice for a morning working session. Urban Bean in Botafogo has outside seating that captures the Flamengo hill breeze — strong Wi-Fi, the quiet Tuesday morning crowd and the best laptop culture on this side of the city. Arrive before 9 am.
Aussie Coffee at the passage off R. Visconde de Pirajá in Ipanema is the post-beach re-entry option — a strong flat white and covered outdoor seating, ideal for a few focused hours before or after the water. Empório Jardim in Jardim Botânico pairs well with a Parque Lage morning: neighbourhood calm, outdoor tables and a quieter tempo than Ipanema.
For coworking: WeWork Porto Maravilha (full Tuesday schedule, port waterfront) and Como Coworking in Botafogo are the two day-pass options today. Curto Café in Centro is open from 8 am weekdays — note CCBB is closed today, making the Curto-to-MAR route the natural Centro nomad morning arc on any Tuesday.
THE CONTRASTING PLAY — MAM RIO — FLAMENGO
MAM Rio on a 28°C Tuesday — Oiticica, Valentim and the bay terrace at full summer heat
MAM Rio at Av. Infante Dom Henrique 85 is open Tuesday–Sunday 11 am–7 pm, R$14 (free Sundays). At 28°C, the walk through Parque do Flamengo from the Flamengo Metrô stop to the waterfront pavilion is one of the best urban walks of the year — the sea breeze comes in off the bay, the Pão de Açúcar is sharp against the sky, and the Niemeyer-era pavilion at the waterfront is at its most dramatic in the June heat.
The terrace with the unobstructed Guanabara Bay view is open today and at 28°C it is clearly and without question the room to linger in, not to rush through. MAM Rio · R$14 (free Sundays) · Tue–Sun 11 am–7 pm · Av. Infante Dom Henrique 85, Flamengo.
TONIGHT, AFTER 7 PM
Pedra do Sal Tuesday roda from 8 pm — samba on the quilombo square at 28°C
Pedda do Sal at Largo João da Baiana, Saúde, runs the free Tuesday roda from 8 pm — one of the three weekly nights (Tuesday, Friday, Sunday) on the historic open-air samba square that is one of the birthplaces of the genre. On a 28°C evening with 10% rain the crowd builds early: arrive by 8 pm and bring water; the temperature will still be above 24°C at the start.
From Praça Mauá (VLT stop) the walk to Largo João da Baiana through the Saúde neighbourhood takes about fifteen minutes — pass the Valongo Wharf archaeological site along the waterfront. Carioca da Gema at R. Mem de Sá 79, Lapa, runs the Tuesday roda from 8 pm, R$45–55, for those who want a covered room.
Bar Urca at R. Cândido Gaffrée 205 seawall terrace is one of the finest pre-roda stops at 28°C — the bay view at sunset (around 5:30 pm) and then a beer before heading to Saúde. Nova Capela at Av. Mem de Sá 96, Lapa, open until 4 am for the post-Pedra do Sal close.

What happened at the Ibovespa yesterday and what is the Focus outlook?
The Ibovespa closed Monday at 168,668.72 points (–0.21%), with the dollar rising to R$5.18. The session was subdued as investors weighed the Middle East situation following a resumed exchange of fire between Israel and Iran — volatility in oil prices was the main market driver on the day.
The Banco Central’s Focus Bulletin released Monday raised the IPCA 2026 consensus estimate from 5.09% to 5.11% — above the 4.5% target ceiling — and lifted the Selic 2026 year-end projection from 13.25% to 13.50%. The Copom meets June 17–18 for the month’s key rate decision.
What time is the Pedda do Sal roda tonight and how do I get there?
The Pedra do Sal roda starts from 8 pm at Largo João da Baiana in the Saúde neighbourhood — it is free, outdoors and runs past midnight. Tuesday is one of its three weekly nights (Tuesday, Friday, Sunday). At 28°C the square will be warm and busy; arrive by 8 pm for the best position.
Getting there: VLT Carioca to Praça Mauá, then a fifteen-minute walk north through Saúde past the Valongo Wharf archaeological site. Alternatively, MetrôRio to Central do Brasil (Linha 1) then rideshare to Largo João da Baiana. Tonight’s 10% rain means the roda almost certainly stays outside.
